Can a team reduce burnout, boost productivity, and create meaningful impact on communities—all in a single day? Absolutely. Let us take you on a journey where one company did exactly that with The Happiness Tour.
When Hengelo-based tech firm Sensata Technologies found themselves grappling with burnout across teams, they knew they needed more than another lecture on stress management. They wanted an experience that combined employee well-being, team engagement, and social impact.
Enter The Happiness Tour, a one-of-a-kind initiative designed to turn corporate well-being into a joyful, immersive, and impactful adventure.
The team at Sensata started by sharing their objectives:
Based on these goals, The Happiness Tour designed a Winter Happiness Experience, perfectly tailored to their needs.
The day kicked off with a cozy breakfast at a café partnered with a local NGO, where the team learned how their meal contributed to community cause. Over fresh pastries and delicious coffee the conversation shifted from deadlines to smiles.
Next, the group moved into an experiential happiness workshop. This session combined mindfulness exercises with stress-relief techniques backed by neuroscience. By practicing gratitude and joy, employees began to let go of the overwhelm that had plagued their weeks. They also created their very own Winter Happiness Plan.
“I didn’t realize how much I needed this. It feels like my brain just took a deep breath,” said Hema, the Quality Gloabal Lead at Sensata.
The team then split into pairs and small groups for a gratitude art installation – a beautiful sunburst. Each group was asked to reflect on their experiences during the day and translate it into visual elements for a large, collaborative piece. The result? A beautiful gratitude art that now adorns Sensata’s break room, serving as a daily reminder of joy and connection.
Later, the group enjoyed an immersive scent based workshop to ward off winter blues. Not only did they get to learn about personalized scents their purchases supported a small-scale artisan and her mission to preserve traditional techniques.
“This wasn’t just fun—it felt meaningful,” said Kumaran, from Sensata’s Tech team. “It’s rare to have an activity that combines creativity, relaxation, and social impact in such a seamless way.”
Lunch was no ordinary affair. It took place at a community-run farm-to-table restaurant where employees savored fresh, locally-sourced dishes. The restaurant’s proceeds supported training programs for youth, aligning the experience with Sensata’s CSR objectives.
“Knowing our meal is helping young people gain opportunities made every bite taste even better,” remarked Sandra Lee, a software engineer.
The afternoon featured light-hearted team bonding activities, including a scavenger hunt through Enschade’s charming streets and trivia games focused on sustainability and community impact. Employees got to know each other outside of their usual roles, building camaraderie and trust.
